Final plans have been unknown for what exactly the fate is for the current Safeway location on Bellevue Way. The Safeway will be moving across the street to join the retail space underneath the Avalon-Meydenbauer apartment complex when complete.

Monday afternoon it become clear that Kemper Development Company (the property owner) is actively making strides in researching the location’s environment. A Holocene Drilling truck was present and drilling a hole into the ground taking what seemed to be a core sample of the earth below.

The rumor until now is that a condominiums will take over the outdated location of the Safeway. The area is prime real estate, which is across the way from Bellevue Square, and next door to the Bellevue Arts Museum and One Lincoln Tower.

  1. Actually, the to be former Safeway site is owned by Kemper Development Co. They used to own the Avalon-Meydenbauer site and in a deal had swapped land so that they could develop the current Safeway site. It is to be home of “Lincoln Square Phase II” with condos and fine retail/dining and connected to the new addition to Bellevue Square, “The Bellevue” (luxury mall of boutiques and dining) via an additional skybridge. You can see a scale model of this vision at the Kemper Development office on the 5th floor of “The Lodge at Bellevue Square”

  2. PS – Lincoln Square Phase II will consist of two towers!

  3. It might’ve not been clear in the post, but I knew and tried to convey that Kemper Development Co. is the property owner of the old Safeway site.

Haven’t seen the model of the future plans though! Look forward to eventually seeing that. Is this open to the public to see?

  4. It actually is! If you take the elevator (at the Lodge) to the 5th floor, their office entrance is to the right. Once you get in there is a display room to the left and in it is a million dollar scale model of downtown Bellevue included with all projects that are under construction, in the pipeline and all of Kemper’s future expansions. Totally worth a look!
