Only in Bellevue would you get issued with a parking ticket that has no price associated with it.

Yes, this is no joke; I brought a friend to his car this weekend, which had been parked on a public street in Downtown Bellevue in a 2 hour zone for 6 hours, clearly a violation. When pulling up to his car, he was irritated, yet understanding to see a parking ticket on his windshield.

After closely examining the ticket he realized that the “Penalty” showed as “$0”. He was thrilled that he would not be charged for this infraction. If motorists aren’t being charged for this type parking violation…what are they being charged for?

I’m not one to encourage giving out tickets, but if the city is struggling to fund any of their projects, and can’t find the money for it…I suggest they begin charging parking offenders for their infractions.

  1. If they give a warning for the first offense, then start fining, that is a very nice policy. What a polite city!

  2. Agreed…nice city, but hopefully people don’t start getting the idea that they can abuse it.

It actually is a pretty interesting use case. Does getting a ticket, even if it is no cost, affect people the same way that getting a ticket that has a cost associated with it?

  3. Well if they start charging after the 1st time then it would not be abused…

  4. Feel free to send me the money if you have issues with $0 parking fine.

This goes to show you that it is simply impossible to make everyone happy…we all have some weird perception or logic to make good things seem bad.

  5. That’s too funny! I once got a paycheck for $0.00–I framed it, but I guess I could use it to pay a parking ticket like that!

The screwy thing is that the tickets are based on your car being parked on a particular street. I live at the palazzo. I have 106th ave ne on the west of my building and 106th place on the east. If I take my car out of the garage and have it on 106th ave ne for a short time in the morning, leave and come back hours later to pick something up, if I stop on 106th place, I risk getting a ticket.
