Armed suspect killed by officers at Cheveron on Bellevue Way

According to a press release by the Bellevue Police Department:

This morning at approximately 2:35 a.m. Police responded to 911 calls regarding a man with a knife at the Chevron Station in the 1600 block of Bellevue Way S.E. Witnesses said a male had a large knife and were threatening them.

Three officers arrived quickly where they were confronted by the suspect with a large knife.   There was a confrontation, shots were fired which resulted in the suspect being killed.

CPR was administered at the scene but the suspect was pronounced dead.  The name of the deceased will be released by the King County Medical Examiner Office.

The investigation continues as detectives try to determine details of the incident.  More information about the suspect and circumstances of the shooting will be released when available.

AFTERNOON UPDATE FROM THE BELLEVUE POLICE DEPARTMENT:

This morning at approximately 2:35 a.m. Police responded to 911 calls regarding a man with a knife at the Chevron Station in the 1600 block of Bellevue Way S.E. Witnesses said a male was threatening them with a large knife.

There were two clerks and two patrons inside the Chevron store when the male came into the store and would not let them leave.  The suspect told the clerk to call the police and tell them he was taking the Chevron hostage.

When the first three officers arrived, the suspect walked out of the store. He approached the officers holding a large chef/butcher type knife.  The suspect held the knife in threatening manner as he continued towards the officers.

Shots were fired which resulted in the suspect being killed.

Medics arrived and the suspect was pronounced dead.  The name of the deceased will be released by the King County Medical Examiner Office.  He was 25 years old and a resident of Bellevue.  Attempts have been made to notify family members of the deceased.

One officer involved is 31 years old and has four years of law enforcement experience.  The other officer is 27 years old with three and half years of law enforcement experience.  Both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is mandatory after an incident of this nature.
