Local property owner Vander Hoek Corp. plans to construct a 369-unit apartment complex at the northwest corner of Bellevue Way NE and Main Street in downtown Bellevue, according to permits submitted with the City of Bellevue.
The Main Street Gateway project, scheduled for completion in May 2016, will also include 23,475 square feet of retail space and 625 underground parking stalls.
The 1.9-acre block currently houses six commercial buildings, which are occupied by Cupcake Royale, The Spot Off Main, a barbershop, and other businesses. The buildings will be demolished to make way for the new complex.
Readers, what are your thoughts on this new development? Will you miss these businesses or will you be happy to make way for the new development?
So sad. Cupcake Royale and Rudy’s are my favorite spots in Bellevue. Why can’t they build across the street when the only thing is a pizza cart?
@Kali – There’s another project going up across the street. That corner is going to look very different in 3-4 years.
I’m sure Rudy’s and Cupcake Royale can relocate to another space.

1970 called and wants its bloated parking ratio back.
625 spaces times $30k space. What a waste.
I know, and it’s great to see growth. I’m just being sentimental.
Are these going to be high rises?
