Multiple arrests have been made by the Bellevue Police Department following a thorough investigation into a series of organized retail thefts at Bellevue Square Mall’s Nordstrom between September and November 2023.
The inquiry, led by a seasoned Bellevue Police Detective and supported by the department’s Special Enforcement Team, targeted the thefts specifically focused on high-end designer sunglasses, totaling an estimated $20,000. Detectives meticulously studied the incidents, resulting in the formal charging of four suspects in King County Superior Court.
The individuals facing charges are:
- Larae R. Hamim, 25, facing five counts of second-degree organized retail theft.
- Joanna D. Fernandez, 24, facing two counts of second-degree organized retail theft.
- Reality T. Leavens, 19, facing two counts of second-degree organized retail theft.
- Taladra M. Swan, 27, facing two counts of second-degree organized retail theft.
The four suspects are set to be arraigned on Wednesday, January 3rd at the King County Courthouse.
Bellevue Police collaborated with Nordstrom’s investigative team and Kemper Development Security, responsible for Bellevue Square Mall security, to gather substantial evidence, including surveillance footage and documentation of the stolen items. The investigation uncovered the suspects’ pattern of criminal activity, involving coordinated entries into the store, thefts of numerous designer sunglasses, and concealing the items within their clothing and bags before exiting.
Major Mark Tarantino of Bellevue Police Investigations commended the investigative team’s meticulous work, stating, “Our investigators deserve recognition for piecing together crucial links between the suspects and these thefts.” He added, “Our efforts to combat retail theft remain steadfast, ensuring accountability and upholding the law.”
The investigation further revealed connections between the suspects and prior criminal activities, emphasizing the department’s commitment to pursuing and prosecuting individuals involved in organized criminal endeavors.
