Review: Whisk Cooking Class

Thu Vo is a guest writer who lives and works on the Eastside, frequenting downtown Bellevue restaurants and shops. She recently experienced a Whisk cooking class and is sharing her experience below.

Walking into Whisk, your sight is stimulated by all the culinary displays. Walls of beautiful cookware, utensils perfectly arranged and whimsical lighting constructed from its namesake make this store a wannabe chef’s haven. It’s what you don’t notice immediately that makes this store so special. It’s their cooking and baking classes that deliver an experience which stimulates all senses.

The Latin Tapas class is 2 ½ hours long with good food, conversation and wine, which made it hard to end the night. Chef Yary made participants feel right at home by offering sangria and settling them into their work stations. The class was intimate with only 4 pairs of cooking partners. All the ingredients were laid out on trays and directions were provided for each dish. Enough instruction was given for participants to move at their own pace, yet the instructor circled around each station to check-in, offer assistance and share techniques that attendees could add to their cooking repertoire. After each generous sized dish was prepared, we were encouraged to enjoy the fruits of our labor. The staff quickly cleaned up and prepped stations for the next dish. In total, 3 tapas were prepared along with a sit-down meal of Cuban shredded beef at the end of the class that Yary demonstrated during tapas sampling. During the meal, the owners came by to thank participants for attending and requested feedback for future classes.

For anyone looking for an experience that provides delicious food, culinary training and an unforgettable evening to remember, do yourself a favor and take class at Whisk. It’s the perfect date night, girls’ night out or a fun, alternative gift idea!
