On July 23, 2024, the Bellevue-Redmond Tourism Promotion Area (BRTPA) Advisory Board, led by Chair Caroline Dermarkarian, presented its budget and strategic plan for 2025. The plan focuses on boosting tourism and the economy in Bellevue and Redmond with targeted investments and innovative programs.

2024 Progress and Highlights

In 2024, both Bellevue and Redmond made significant progress in improving their tourism scenes:

In Bellevue, the city has updated its Destination Development Plan, launched an overseas marketing campaign, and introduced culinary tourism tours. These efforts have enhanced visitor communication and transportation infrastructure.

In Redmond, the city has contributed to the Tourism Strategic Plan, hired dedicated tourism staff, and developed tourism programs to lay a strong foundation for future growth.

2025 Strategic Goals

The BRTPA Advisory Board has set bold goals for 2025, customized to the specific needs and priorities of each area:

In the Bellevue Zone, the goal is to attract 2.4 million visitors by the end of 2025, which is an increase of 600,000 from current numbers. The city aims to raise overall hotel occupancy to 72%, up by 9%, and increase weekend hotel occupancy to 66%, a 5% rise. Additionally, Bellevue hopes to generate over $300 million in local economic impact.

To reach these goals, Bellevue’s strategic plan includes launching a Mobile Welcome Center, promoting culinary tourism, and conducting sales missions. It also features renowned chef Shota Nakajima and offers a variety of water and outdoor tours, including electric bike tours.

In the Redmond Zone, the goal is to increase overnight visitors by 8% compared to 2024. To achieve this, the city plans to create and market programs that encourage longer stays and develop a comprehensive Tourism Master Plan.

To reach these goals, Redmond’s strategic plan includes implementing a special events shuttle, launching a concierge program, and enhancing destination awareness through targeted marketing efforts.

Budget Overview

The 2025 budget is tailored to address the unique needs of each area, making sure that every dollar is spent effectively. Funds will be used for different promotional activities allowed by agreements between local governments, with the Redmond area using $160,212 from its savings.

This proactive plan is designed to support continuous growth and success for tourism in Bellevue and Redmond. The BRTPA Advisory Board suggests that staff draft legislation for the 2025-2026 budget cycle to fund projects that match the strategic plan.

  2. Wow, WTF? Just what we need more tourists? Really? And tax payers get to foot the bill? Sorry I’m not a fan of tourists, lets focus on folks who live here. Bellevue “art fair” sucks other “events” add Zero value to my life. I do not find standing in line to be fun.
