Leave Your Car at Home - Saving Money

‘Leave Your Car at Home’
Dispatch #4

Probably the biggest benefit to not owning a car has been the savings I’ve incurred over time and if you wanted to release even more disposable income you could consider taking part in some home equity release. My friend told me they got a great loan from somewhere similar to EquityRelease.co.uk to help afford new home renovations. But I digress. Owning a car in our culture is typically the norm, and most don’t question the costs associated with driving…but it adds up quickly. However, there is another way to save money if you would like to compare online for the cheapest van insurance, online sites are great to save money and compare the best deals but you could save money also by saving money by not owning a car.

Here is a breakdown of the money I’m saving by not owning a car this month:

– Car payment $450
– Insurance $100
– Gas $60
– Monthly Parking Pass $75
– Maintenance (car wash, oil change, etc.) $30
Total Money Saved = $715!

Some of the money I have saved is now being used for transportation alternatives this month, such as Zipcar, taxis, bus fare, etc. Having said that, it will not add up to anything close to the total I spent in the past.

Hopefully this will inspire some people to realize how much they spend a month on their car and to find ways to eliminate or reduce some of their costs.
