Washington Square is currently home to 2 mid-rise condominium towers on a portion of the Superblock at 106th Ave. & 8th Street.
The initial vision when the block was being developed was that the project would house 5 residential towers and 2 to 3 office towers. The down turn in the economy has clearly influenced the plans for growth, or lackof in 2009.
Recently Washington Square announced new plans in which they will develop 3 additional phases of the project. The next phase (phase 2) is anticipated to consist of office and retail space, along with a hotel according to sources with the project.
The third phase will be dedicated to a continuing care retirement community, on the northeast corner, where the grass field currently resides.
Phase 1 – Residential Condo Tower 1 & Tower 2: COMPLETE
Phase 2 – Southwestern Corner: Currently in Negotiations
Phase 3 – Northeast Corner: Continuing Care Retirement Community
Phase 4 – TBD
Several months ago Washington Square exceeded 51% occupancy of their inventory, and within the next 3 weeks will end up closing on 11 new condo suites.
Additionally at the base of Tower 1 there are some empty retail locations. Washington Square is currently in discussions with 2 restaurants to fill one of the spaces.
yowza. Superblock, indeed. Everything will be so new, I hope no one forgets the charm of what’s old.
I’m glad that they are in the planning stages for the next phase because in 3 or 4 years the economy should be turned around and booming… I hope!! I heard that they were thinking of making a sky bridge to connect the two office buildings along NE 8th. Anyone else hear anything like that?
If there is a hotel that opens, I’m very interested to hear what hotel will be opening. Hopefully it will be some type of boutique hotels. There aren’t many in Bellevue. There is one in the pipeline (Bellevue Park Hotel), but haven’t heard a peep from the project as of late:

From what I have heard, Washington Square will not go with big chain stores (No Starbucks or Subways) and Im guessing that will be a big influence when it comes time to choose a hotel.
