travel_and_leisure_logoBellevue adds to its ongoing accolades with a recent nomination as ‘Coolest Suburbs Worth a Visit’ by Travel + Leisure.

There were 10 cities across America chosen for this category, and they were described – ‘Many suburbs are becoming vacation-worthy hot spots, with cutting-edge restaurants, great shopping, and plenty of parking.’ Below is an excerpt of Travel + Leisure’s description for Bellevue:

Bellevue, Washington

This onetime sleepy suburb of Seattle (just across Lake Washington) has undergone a flash of development in recent years, including the completion of the Bravern, a massive high-end shopping, office, and condo complex where Microsoft has taken space. The younger crowd is making its presence felt in the scene-y sections of Lincoln Square and the area around Bellevue Towers.

See: No boring strip malls here. Check out the gleaming shops at Bellevue Square, including 7 For All Mankind and Michael Kors Lifestyle. Just across the street is the Bellevue Arts Museum.

Taste: Drop by the sophisticated Taphouse Grill, where you can feast on fish tacos and down them with one of the 160 beers on tap.

  1. LOL….”plenty of parking”. The people who gave this award obviously don’t have a “residents” POV. I’m well aware of the preferential treatment businesses get vs. residents.

“No strip malls here”….I fail to see the drawback of a building type detracting from a cities appeal, but we are in Bellevue after all

  2. you seriously believe that a strip mall doesn’t detract from a cities appeal?

  3. Yayz for Bellevue on this one!

Agree with Peter that strip malls are inefficient, forcing-people-to-drive eye sores.

Though I also have some questions about Travel + Leisure’s taste when they name Taphouse “sophisticated”.

  4. How about one of the coolest suburbs to LIVE!
