Walmart BellevueWithin a period of a few days, Walmart has announced two new stores for the Bellevue area. Walmart will be the grocery tenant that will take over the vacated Kmart site, along with L.A. Fitness at Kelsey Creek. The company also announced Wednesday it will take over the space formerly occupied by Mervyn’s at the Factoria Mall. The company expects to employ 220 employees at the two locations.

Will Walmart’s thirst for development stop there? Or can we look forward to a Walmart soon for downtown Bellevue? What’s your opinion? Please let us hear what you think.

  1. What would a Walmart in Downtown Bellevue look like? Like the Bellevue Safeway, it would have to be the fanciest Walmart ever

  2. Great news!!!

  3. NO! Walmart needs to stay the hell away from Bellevue. Bellevue doesn’t need a Walmart come on! Target would be so much better in the area of Kelsey Creek.

  4. Not a chance. There’s no spaces big enough and 3 locations in one city is already excessive enough. Plus, the demographics in Factoria and the Lake Hills neighborhoods are much different from DT Bellevue.

  5. No.

    Thanks though.

  6. Love these comments. It´s Bellevue.

  7. Kimco who own Factoria Mall is such bad company with no business ethics at all. When Walmart open, most existing retails in Factoria Mall will most likely be dead. Target, RiteAid, Safeway will definately suffering from the cheap price products at Walmart. I feel sorry for all small business owners in Factoria area.

  8. I much perfer fred meyer or even a Costco in downtown bellevue…Walmart may have cheap prices but the cheap quality of goods goes right along with it. I’m not a fan.

  9. Yes, yes, yes! Tired of having to go to Auburn or up north for Walmart. Hope its a Super Walmart too! Target, RiteAid, Safeway can lower their prices and increase choice or die.

Best news of the new year. Is there a link to the announcement and/or opening dates?

  10. What kind of Walmart stores will these be? I assume they’re not going to open up two Walmart Supercenters within 3 miles of each other? I know in other parts of the US, they have smaller format Walmart stores.

I guess my biggest concern with the Walmart opening up in Factoria is the traffic on Factoria Blvd.

  11. Noe of these stores are supercenters. The one in Kelsey Creek is more like a grocery store. The other in Factoria is bigger, but still not a supercenter.

  12. Please take the time to watch this video to understand why Walmart is bad for Bellevue, and it brings cheaper prices to the consumers at the expense of its workers.

  13. I live in the Kelsey Creek area, and I want locally-owned businesses in my neighborhood, not the poverty-generator that is Walmart. I want a beautiful center to gather, shop, work, and take guests with good restaurants, interesting shops, and owned by our neighbors. Walmart will hurt our community and devalue our homes. It will benefit Walmart executives and no one else. Other towns have supported local business development and refused to allow the huge corporations to take over. Bellevue can too.

  14. I have a faint suspision that the opposition to the Walmart grocery store on 148th Ave is as much as economically inspired as ethically inspired.

I am actually fine with a Walmart grocery, but not SuperCenter.

It’s no news that a Walmart, especially their SuperCenter where cheapness rules over all, brings unsavory customers, traffic jams, and pushes down both commercial and residential property prices around it.

So to KB above, sorry, SuperCenter within 10 miles of Bellevue downtown will never happen. If you really want to shop there, maybe you should move closer to Auburn or Tulalip.

It’s not snobbish, it’s just how the real estate market works… if I am not wrong, there is not a single Walmart (not even grocery) in the Seattle city proper?

  15. I am mainly worried about the traffic impact this store will have on 148th Ave., which is already clogged during rush hours with cars trying to get to I-90 bypassing I-405. I can’t imagine how much worse the traffic will be when the store opens.
Then again that site has been sitting empty since Kmart closed, for about 10 years. So I can’t blame the owner for agreeing to a Walmart store.

  16. Kemper Freeman better be more concerned about Walmart coming in and affecting Bel Squares tenants’ bottom line than the effects of Sound Transit light rail.
At least light rail will take people to Bel Square.
Maybe there is still time to change the course of the light rail line to go by the Walmarts? Tere is still time. Right?
Perhaps he and Eyman can get an initiative started to stop Walmart in Bellevue! LOL!

  17. I have been so happy to live in an area with no WalMart for so long. I can’t stand the fact that they are moving in. Have you ever been in a Walmart? They are messy, crowded, dirty messes. They treat their employees horribly. There is not a single good thing about Walmart coming to the Eastside.

  18. Is there a way to petition the Bellevue/Factoria City Hall about this? This needs to be stopped!

Walmart will not only decrease the value of the city, real estate, but increase crime rate (bringing unwanted others here) and deaths (greedy and violent black friday shoppers).

  19. Hello PEOPLE – this means J.O.B.’s!! Like it or not, people (many people) need jobs of all kinds! If Walmart isn’t your cup-of-tea, just remember that it’s employ’ing folks who might otherwise be on the streets, maybe your street… looking to move-in…Get my point?

  20. You have got to be kidding me. First of all, is Bellevue even an appropriate demographic for Wal-Mart? Secondly,Wal Mart?? Really? I thought we all had higher standards.

  21. Where. Was Meryn’s. Store at Factorial. Mall ?

  22. Thank you for visiting Bellevue Walmart! Awesome…….. Come on people, it’s jobs and taxes. Bellevue can only win win with this. Oh and keep it away from downtown don’t want my property value to go down too low…….. Lol

  23. This is disgusting..WalMart needs to stay out of the Bellevue area all together. I’ve lived in Bellevue my entire life and never had any complaints..but really WalMart? I dont see this being very successful. Gross…All of my many friends from Bellevue are pissed about this also. I hate WalMart, just not my type of store. Target all the way.
