Residents are being asked to name five new Bel-Red streets in Bellevue. Although the Bel-Red area is not currently defined as “Downtown Bellevue” it’s likely over the next few decades Downtown Bellevue as we know it will begin to expand towards the Bel-Red corridor.

This is your chance at naming the future of Downtown Bellevue.

According to the City of Bellevue naming submissions may be based on the area’s industrial past or recall its natural, agricultural and ethnic heritage. Suggested names may also refer to neighborhood landmarks and events, as well as something about the area’s future.

The City has defined the following streets that are in need of names:

  • Northeast 15th/16th Street: This street will be a lynchpin and key east-west corridor for Bel-Red, serving cars, pedestrians and cyclists and incorporating a series of environmentally sensitive urban open spaces.
  • Two segments each of Northeast 14th and 18th streets: These streets will be “green streets,” generally located between stream corridors and trail connections, with an abundance of trees and landscaping to limit stormwater runoff.

To submit names go online to the City of Bellevue website from now until November 30th. Names will be chosen in late 2012 or early 2013. For more information about the project visit the City of Bellevue website.
