Bellevue Police caught two people last Friday and found a stolen car and a gun. They got a call from the Bellevue Square Mall security. Around 2:30 p.m., a guard from Kemper Security saw a strange car in the mall’s parking lot. The guard saw a gun on the front passenger seat. They checked the car’s plate and found out it was stolen from Renton.

The police got there quickly and talked to the two people who came out of the car at the mall. They held a 26-year-old from Seattle who drove the stolen car. When they searched him, they found another stolen loaded gun. This guy had been in trouble before and wasn’t supposed to have guns. The other person, a 19-year-old from Seattle, got arrested for having the gun even though he was too young to legally have it.

The police took both guns and saw that the one in the car was changed to be fully automatic, which is against the law.

Bellevue’s Chief of Police Wendell Shirley said, “This shows how our cops work with stores, security, and others to stop crime in Bellevue. Thanks to everyone helping, we found a stolen car and, more important, two illegal guns are off the streets.” He also warned, “If you plan to do bad stuff in Bellevue, expect to get caught.”

The Bellevue Police Department recently hired a new Assistant Chief of Police, Constance Slappey. Prior to serving as the Assistant Chief of Police at the Inkster Police Department in Michigan, she served with distinction for 26 years at the Detroit Police Department.
