On May 10, 2025, Sound Transit will open two new light rail stations as part of the Downtown Redmond Link Extension. The 3.4-mile expansion adds service to Marymoor Village near Marymoor Park and the Downtown Redmond core. The new stations are expected to increase ridership on the Eastside’s Link 2 Line, making the system more useful for Eastside residents and those commuting from surrounding areas.
The addition of Marymoor Village and Downtown Redmond stations brings the total number of 2 Line stations to ten. When fully operational, the 2 Line will run every 10 minutes from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., seven days a week, between South Bellevue and Downtown Redmond.
This expansion improves connectivity across the Eastside and links Bellevue residents directly to more areas of Redmond via light rail.
Projected travel time from Marymoor Village to Bellevue Downtown Station is 15 minutes. The extension is part of a broader East Link build-out, which is projected to draw between 43,000 and 52,000 daily riders by 2026.
Since the initial segment opened in April 2024, the 2 Line has offered service between South Bellevue and Redmond Technology stations, with stops at East Main, Bellevue Downtown, Wilburton, Spring District/130th, and Overlake Village.
Before opening, Sound Transit operators conducted simulated service runs beginning in late 2023 to test systems and prepare staff.
The full 2 Line will eventually include Mercer Island and Judkins Park stations. It will also connect with the 1 Line at the International District/Chinatown Station in Seattle, further expanding regional transit options.
Opening day celebrations for the new Redmond stations will begin with a ribbon-cutting at Downtown Redmond Station at 10:30 a.m., followed by service launch around noon.
Move Redmond will host events along the Central Connector Trail, with vendors, live music, and family-friendly activities. Community celebrations will also take place at both new stations and other local Redmond locations between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m.
