Barrio Bellevue

Tuesday, September 22nd, Barrio will open at the base of Bellevue Towers for dinner.  The modern Latin and Mexican food-inspired restaurant will be the second of 2, the first being on Seattle’s Capitol Hill. Barrio translates to “neighborhood” in Spanish and will be a nice addition to our neighborhood with seating to accommodate more than 130 diners.

The interior will feel a lot like the Capitol Hill location, with a central bar, heavy chairs, and glowing candle-lit wall. Many people are familiar with Purple Cafe and Wine Bar, which is under the same umbrella as Barrio – managed by Heavy Restaurant Group. Executive Chef, Mike Davis – Walla Walla’s highly acclaimed 26brix, and Wine Director, Dawn Smith – Seattle Magazine’s Sommelier of the Year, will oversee food and beverage operations at Barrio Bellevue.

The food at Barrio is unique and a real treat for those who enjoy fresh ceviche, bold flavors, and creative cocktails. Their salsas are homemade and served with plantain chips. You can order a variety of small tacos, and their food is great for sharing. Barrio will be unlike any other Mexican restaurant in the area.

Barrio Bellevue will be open Monday through Thursday, 11am – 11pm; Friday, 11am – 1pm; Saturday, 10am – 1am; Sunday 10am – 10pm.

  1. I think “someone” is taking me to lunch soon!!

  2. I’m excited to try this place. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the one on Capitol Hill, so its a treat to have one on this side of the pond!

  3. Based on this article, I drove over last night (Sept30). The sign in the window showed Sept22, but they were nowhere near opening. It was super frustrating / disappionting as I drove over based on the combination of this article, and their own website. Barrio needs to improve its PR department a lot in my opinion.

  4. Hi Andy,

I’m sorry for your confusion. Barrio in Bellevue IS open. It’s Purple Cafe and Wine Bar on the corner that’s yet to open. The entrance to Barrio is up the street on 4th St., although their signage runs from there to around the corner on 106th Ave.

You should really go again to check it out. There food is great and service is exceptional!

    Cheers,
    Lea

  5. Ok – so Purple Cafe has a (large) Barrio sign in their front window?

  6. Also… they were running some sort of waiter training, and let us in Purple Cafe – but provided no info on that Barrio was down the street. 🙁

We’ll engage in more comprehensive research for our next attempt.

  7. Yes, currently there is a Barrio and Purple sign on Purple Cafe’s window. They are operated under the same umbrella, Heavy Restaurant Group.

I have sent the marketing manager your feedback, and he is sorry for your confusion. They agree that the Barrio sign in Purple’s window is confusing and plan to remove it soon. In the mean time, Barrio would like to send you a gift card to make up for it! Andy, please email me your contact information directly to lea@downtownbellevue.com.

    Thanks,
    Lea
