According to the Associated Press, a Maryland judge has ordered the R&B superstar Ne-Yo to pay $156,000 in damages because of his failure to appear for a New Year’s Eve concert at Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue.
The largely hyped concert, Shine Like A Star 2009, got a lot of press attention by local and national media sources when Ne-Yo did not show up in Bellevue after attendees at the event paid $75 – $1,275 per ticket to see him.
Local promoter Kenyohn Clark sued Ne-Yo (real name Shaffer Smith) and promoter Mike Esterman. The Maryland judge ruled in favor of Clark who claimed that Ne-Yo’s promoter misled him and failed to return a $95,000 deposit.

I was one of the guests there. Glad that NEYO pays the consequences of his actions. Honestly, his music is not really that special. I just went because a friend took me. The only question I have is, did the promoters know that he’s not going to show up ? They made us wear wrist band instead of giving us tickets at the beginning.
I arrived around 10:30. There was no line and the crowd was thin so I just asked one of the staff and they told me he wasn’t coming. Lame.
Never heard of him but glad he had to pay…
Who would pay up to 1200. to hear his horrible “music”? I’d rather pay him NOT to show up!
