Black Bottle Postern Bellveue Avalon TowersIn January we announced that Belltown’s Black Bottle would open a Bellevue location at Avalon Towers Bellevue on Bellevue Way. The Bellevue restaurant was named ‘Black Bottle Postern,’ which opened quietly last week with little fanfare.

The modern and intimate atmosphere features high ceilings with ceiling fans, natural wood flooring, a fireplace, and dim lighting.

Black Bottle Postern opens at 3 PM daily, but does not have defined closing times according to their website.

  1. My wife and I went there last Tuesday, and the food was amazing.

The bacon lemon scallops came on a bed of kale. The scallops were really tasty, but, amazignly enough, the kale was the star of the dish. Yup. You read that right. They made _kale_ taste not only good, but delicious. Kale. I kid you not.

The pork belly and kimchi was really flavorful, albeit a bit dry. I’d still happily eat it again, and again, and again…

The bean stew (casserole?) had a really nice, subtle flavor, which I think we would have enjoyed more if it hadn’t come after the really bold flavors of the other dishes we had ordered. I wouldn’t advice against getting it, by any means, but I would definitely start the meal with it, as to not miss out on the delicate flavor.

The cacao nib mousse torte and chili pistachio brittle were a great way to end the meal. We had seen what it looked like earlier that night, and, even though we were stuffed from our dinner, we couldn’t help but order one. We did not regret our decision.

  3. looking forward to trying it!

  4. was wondering when this little gem would open. Can’t wait to drag the bf along!

  5. Went there and ordered a bunch of their different small dishes. All their food gets a thumbs up from me! nice unique beers and an interesting strawberry infused drink too.

  6. Service was a little spotty (might be understaffed since they haven’t been open very long). Took awhile to get the waitstaff’s attention and the table we were seated at wasn’t actually wiped down yet.

However, food was excellent. Had the pork belly+kimchi, the gorgonzola+pear flatbread, the seared ahi, pulled pork tacos, and the fried chicken. Fried chicken was a little overcooked, but very tasty.

    Overall, I’d go again.

  7. We went there on Saturday night and looks like it will be our new favorite bar. With Black Bottle and Lot No.3, it’s great not to have to drive over to Seattle anymore for hip cool bars (ok.. tavern). For the prices, we were expecting tiny portions (given the ambience and DT Bellevue location) and ended up with too much food. The fried chicken with the ginger dipping sauce is heavenly. It was a bit empty around 11pm, but with the Avalon apartments and other retail spaces in that building drawing foot traffic across NE 8th, it should start filling up.

  8. @EnataiMan We must’ve crossed paths. I was there on Saturday as well, and would have to agree with your comments as well.

  9. btw, http://www.blackbottlebellevue.com does have their menu yet (my wife’s vegetarian, so we need to check before we try out new places) – and it’s not identical to their Seattle location, but it felt like it was about 75% the same.

  10. Love the Seattle spot. Scallops/kale was fantastic. No one at our table cared for the pear gorgonzola flat bread and the spicy shrip was just too spicy to eat. This is a nice, non-chain, addition to downtown Bellevue. I hope they do well.

I seriously dislike the trend of hard surfaces only at the new restaurants (Cantnetta, Purple, Lot 3, Black Bottle, Barrio and others). Acoustics are atrocious, there is nothing to absorb sound. I get the “look” but at the very least, dark painted acoustic tile should be added to the exposed industrial ceilings.
