On Wednesday, October 1st the Bellevue Police department responded to a reported stabbing in downtown Bellevue just before 10:30PM at the intersection of 106th Ave NE & NE 4th St.

The Bellevue Police Department believe that the 37-year old male that was stabbed was attempting to shoplift items at the downtown Bellevue Safeway store.  A Safeway employee confronted the alleged shoplifter. After an altercation inside the store, the employee chased the alleged shoplifter from the Safeway store to the Bank of America parking lot at 415 106th Ave NE. According to the report once arriving at the bank parking lot a second altercation took place and the shoplifter was stabbed multiple times by the Safeway employee. The alleged shoplifter then staggered into NE 4th St, where he collapsed. From there the Safeway employee ran back to the Safeway store.

It is reported that the shoplifter has been transported to Harborview hospital with life threatening injuries.

The Bellevue Police Department continues to investigate this incident.
