Chick-fil-A Bellevue

Chick-fil-A, located on Northeast Eighth Street, is temporary closed for a remodel. Signage located outside of the fast-food restaurant reads, “Here we grow again. Closed for remodeling.” The address is 785 116th Avenue Northeast.

According to the City of Bellevue, Chick-fIl-A recognizes that there have been ongoing traffic congestion impacts at the restaurant on Northeast Eighth Street. The restaurant operator has applied for, and the city has issued permits for a reconfiguration of the restaurant and parking lot partially aimed at easing congestion on adjacent streets. This location will be closed temporarily while renovations are completed.

Plans include a redesign and extension of the existing drive-through area with stacking lanes in a dual-lane configuration, according to city permits. The location will be a drive-through only service once it reopens.

We reached out to Chick-fil-A for further comment on what the remodel entails, as well as when it will be completed, and have not yet heard back.

In late April 2015, Chick-fil-A announced new traffic controls for the restaurant due to heavy congestion surrounding the drive-thru. The original plan was to allow 10 cars into the parking lot simultaneously, and once the lot became full, to have an off-duty police officer close the driveway into the restaurant and flag motorists on. At the time, the City of Bellevue and Chick-fil-A were working together to supplement parking options nearby.

The fast-food eatery opened on April 9, 2015. It is the only Chick-fil-A in Bellevue.

This should have never been allowed in the first place. Terrible decision by Bellevue. And, the traffic never got fixed.

  2. I agree. Cannot have picked a worse spot for a Chikfila.

  3. And the Totem Lake is also in a horrible location for traffic. Kirkland and Bellevue seemed to be in the pocket of this corporation

  4. It’s like they were trying to back up 405 by putting it right by an offramp…

Is it just me, or is the goal of Chick-Fil-A’s drive through design to make them look busier, and therefore more appealing?

  5. Should have been in Factoria or Crossroads, but NO, we want it at the busiest intersection in the city.

  6. Love this location, but the traffic problem does needs to be fixed, often I decide not to eat here because of the backup. It does not matter where you place one of these businesses (except for the Lynnwood location that has 2 order & pickup lanes for faster service), traffic problems will always cause slowdowns.

I would recommend getting rid of the backup by removing the dining location and make it drive-thru only or pickup only. Have people to into a lane that allows online or app orders, so you have 3 total lanes and only 5-10 parking spots.

I was hoping the location is closing, a horrible location always a backup and traffic confusion at the intersection.

  8. Lol all the haters bc it is too successful. The back up is there bc of it’s location being optimal and apparently all it’s customers appreciate that location. This was also different in 2013 when they probably had initially looked into that area.
Isn’t it every companies desire to be in the best prime location? Keeping in mind this is still on the other side of 520 from absolute prime land. Why act as if CFLA purposely goes out of their way to inconvenience you haha.

  9. That’s right; we’re all haters🙄. It has nothing to do with the success of the business—IT’S THE HORRIBLE TRAFFIC CONGESTION.

  10. I have never understood the hype about Chick-fil-A, but it seems every location across the country is swamped with traffic. Who ever picked this location did not do their homework on customer demand. I am glad no left turn is allowed into the restaurant from 116th Ave NE, that would be cluster F@@@. I do avoid this intersection now, and hope they find a new way to deal with the traffic.

  11. Worst possible location. Bellevue Council,,,,,How could you be so stupid? No remodel. Close it for good.

  12. I actually understand the desire for Chick-Fil-A to operate at this location from a business perspective – folks driving northbound and southbound on 1-405 can make a convenient stop here, however, the congestion it causes is terrible! I drove by the location last night to go to the nearby Trader Joe’s during what would normally be considered peak-fil-a hours (dinner) and that intersection was noticeably less congested than usual, and it was a nice change. I am also impressed that the ownership is taking it upon themselves to listen to the complaints of the congestion and take steps to remedy it. I’m not a civil engineer or traffic data person, but I would be really interested to see the analytics of the traffic in the area when the location was open recently and during the closure for renovations.

  13. The City isn’t not the one that choose the location – it also was a Denny’s prior to no change to the onsite use. It seems like they trying to improve the conditions which is a good thing. There was nothing underhanded here – Bellevue applies it’s Codes the same for all applicants.

  14. During a visit to Edinburgh last spring we stayed at an Airbnb and then, upon returning from a tour to Skye, stayed at a B & B. The B & B ( Sheridan Guest House) was so perfect in every way that I swore never to patronize Airbnb again! The proprietors were the loveliest, kindest people. The room was perfect and the breakfast was worth the price alone. SO much better than the Airbnb apartment.
On a subsequent trip to Portugal I kept to my word and found many small guesthouses and inns in which to stay. I am hoping this will be true for a long while.

  15. Oops. Wrong website. Not Rick Steves

  16. Yes it was a very dumb decision by city officials who said OK to this. The nearby hospitals had to stagger their employee shifts coming and going because of this badly placed eatery. I have never eaten there nor do I ever plan to due to their poor choices in politics. Not healthy food any way.
