The City of Bellevue has initiated a program providing permit review and inspection fee waivers for developers of affordable housing projects. This move is designed to reduce the financial burden associated with constructing affordable housing in the area.

To qualify for the fee waivers, all housing units within a project must be priced at or below 80% of the area median income for the entirety of the project. Additionally, projects that include long-term or permanent supportive housing, specific types of emergency shelters, or services aimed at individuals experiencing homelessness may also be eligible for these waivers.

This initiative was adopted by the City Council in July 2023. The program addresses the urgent need for affordable housing in Bellevue, as highlighted by local officials.

“Like all cities across our region, Bellevue needs more affordable housing,” said Mayor Lynne Robinson. “Our city is offering developers this tool to incentivize construction of more affordable housing. Bellevue has made it a high priority to create this housing and meet the needs of our community.”
