Bellevue Park Art Structure, "Piloti"
The art, by New York art-architecture studio THEVERYMANY, is titled “Piloti”.

On October 9, a listening session was held to gather input from arts enthusiasts regarding Bellevue’s arts and culture ecosystem. Over 60 participants attended the event, which provided an overview of current arts initiatives in Bellevue and addressed the Bellevue Arts Museum’s recent announcement of its receivership process aimed at achieving financial stability.

Following the presentations, attendees engaged in table discussions, focusing on the future of arts and culture in Bellevue. Key themes emerged, including a desire for more art galleries, interactive arts experiences, and increased opportunities for youth engagement. Participants also highlighted the importance of breaking down access barriers to attract a broader audience.

Community members are encouraged to contribute their perspectives by completing an online survey, which will remain open until October 31.

The feedback gathered from this event, along with responses from the online survey and previous community engagement efforts, will help the city and Arts Commission in shaping future support for the arts. This input may also influence decisions related to the receivership process of the Bellevue Arts Museum.

The online survey includes questions such as: What is an ideal arts and culture experience for you? Describe the most memorable arts and culture experience you’ve had in the last five years. What arts and culture experiences have you had in other communities? What type of arts and culture presence do you want to see in downtown Bellevue?

Bellevue Arts Museum closed abruptly in September 2024. The museum filed for receivership, with the decision intending to protect the community asset and restructure the institution. Although Receivership was new territory for BAM, it presented an opportunity for reinvention and partnership. The museum will maintain a small transitional staff to support reorganization, run private events, and manage the Arts Fair 2025.

  1. It amazes me that even with hundreds of multi-millionaires and several billionaires the Bellevue Art Museum couldn’t be saved. Bill Gates’ Pocket change could have provided a nice endowment.
