This December, the International Ballet Theatre (IBT) is bringing its annual production of The Nutcracker back to the Meydenbauer Theatre in Bellevue. With performances running every weekend in December, this year’s production is appropriate for all ages.

The performances are held on Fridays at 6:00 PM, Saturdays at 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM, and Sundays at 1:00 PM. Tickets are available in several price categories: general admission is $62, with discounts for seniors (60+) and military personnel at $52, and youth tickets (for those 14 and under) priced at $42.

The production features a cast of 80 dancers, ranging from young performers to experienced professionals.

The Nutcracker follows Clara’s journey with her magical Nutcracker doll, battling the Mouse King and journeying into a dream world filled with colorful characters. While the ballet stays true to the original story, the production is unique with its dance styles and music.

Under the direction of Ballet Master Vera Altunina, this production remains dedicated to the European traditions of The Nutcracker, while incorporating new elements that keep it fresh.

The brightly colored costumes, especially in the “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” and “Spanish Dance” sections, are handmade with attention to detail and help set the tone for each scene.

This year, the IBT production features guest principal dancer Anna Sophia Scheller, an accomplished ballerina known for her work with some of the world’s top ballet companies. Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Scheller has danced with the New York City Ballet, the San Francisco Ballet, and most recently the National Ballet of Ukraine. She has performed in major productions like Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, and Giselle. Scheller will perform as the Sugar Plum Fairy.

The performance runs approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes, including a 15-minute intermission. For tickets and more information, visit the International Ballet Theatre’s website.
