The Bellevue Collection is celebrating Diwali, the Festival of Lights, with a weeklong series of displays and cultural activities at Bellevue Square. Festivities begin October 10 and run through October 19, concluding with a day of live performances and family-friendly events on Saturday, October 18.

Diwali is one of India’s most celebrated holidays and symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. The name comes from the Sanskrit words deep (light) and avali (row), referring to the rows of lamps lit during the festival.

The five-day celebration is a time for gathering with family, decorating with colorful rangoli and lanterns, sharing sweets, and honoring Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity.

Throughout the celebration, visitors can enjoy a variety of experiences inside Bellevue Square. The Rangoli Display, created by artists from the Seattle Maharashtra Mandal community, will feature intricate sand art inspired by traditional Indian designs. Guests can also stop by the Diwali Pop Spot in Center Court for a photo opportunity or pick up a Lantern Craft kit at Guest Services to take home, while supplies last.

On Saturday, October 18, the celebration comes to life with live music and dance performances in Center Court from noon to 5 p.m. Henna artists from SARAHENNA Organic Body Art will also be offering complimentary designs on the first level of Bellevue Square from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
