Demolition Begins at Bellevue’s Former Barnes & Noble Site

Demolition of existing buildings and surface parking recently began at 626 106th Avenue Northeast, where Onni Group is planning a three-tower mixed-use development in Downtown Bellevue.

Barnes & Noble operated at the location for 29 years before closing. The adjacent building, formerly Doxa Church and the historic John Danz Theatre, has also closed as part of the site clearance.

Onni Group, a Canadian developer, purchased the property in 2019 for $116 million. The project site spans the superblock bounded by 106th Avenue NE, NE 8th Street, 108th Avenue NE, and NE 6th Street.

According to City of Bellevue records, the three towers will each reach 600 feet tall, rising above a 40-foot podium. Two towers will be residential — one with a hotel component — and the third will be commercial office space. The development will include 1,289 residences, 317 hotel suites, and 896,000 square feet of office space. Total project space is 179,914 square feet.

Planned amenities include two swimming pools, a daycare, and guest suites. A food court associated with the office tower will be accessible to the public via a new east-west midblock connector along the north side of the site. The development will also include six levels of below-grade parking.
