Bungie, the Bellevue-based studio behind Destiny and Halo, is cutting hundreds of jobs at its downtown Bellevue headquarters as part of a company-wide reorganization announced June 25, 2026. A Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) filed with the Washington State Employment Security Department confirms 292 affected workers, with separations expected to begin July 9, 2026.

- Location: 550 106th Ave NE, Suite 207, Bellevue, WA 98004 (downtown Bellevue)
- Affected workers: 292 (per the official Washington WARN filing)
- Type: Layoff — not a facility closure
- Separations begin: July 9, 2026
- Announced: June 25, 2026
What the WARN notice says
Under the federal WARN Act, larger employers must give advance notice of mass layoffs. The notice Bungie filed in Washington lists 292 employees affected at its downtown Bellevue offices, classified as a layoff rather than a closure — meaning the studio intends to keep operating at a reduced size. The state’s Rapid Response team and local WorkSource centers will reach out to affected employees to help with the transition.
Industry reporting suggests the reorganization reaches beyond the WARN headcount, with multiple outlets describing cuts across “most of the Destiny team” and parts of the Marathon team. The 292 figure reflects the positions formally reported to Washington State.
Bungie’s statement
In a public statement posted to X on June 25, Bungie framed the cuts as a difficult but necessary reset:
“With great sadness, we are announcing a reduction in force as we reorganize Bungie… We recognize Destiny 2 fell short of expectations these past several years. Following our final content update to Destiny 2, and with our future projects still in early incubation, we unfortunately could not continue operating at our previous size.”
Bungie, June 25, 2026
The studio said it would share more about its future projects at a later date, and extended “gratitude and compassion” to departing and remaining team members.
How Bungie got here
Sony Interactive Entertainment acquired Bungie in 2022, and the studio has weathered several rounds of cuts since — roughly 100 jobs in late 2023 and about 220 more in mid-2024. The June 2026 reduction is the largest of the post-acquisition era and follows the wind-down of new Destiny 2 content. With the studio’s next projects described as being in “early incubation,” Bungie is contracting to a smaller core while it develops what comes next.
What it means for downtown Bellevue
Bungie has been one of downtown Bellevue’s marquee tech employers and a visible anchor of the city’s gaming cluster. Its offices sit in the heart of the downtown core on 106th Avenue NE, within walking distance of the Bellevue Collection, light rail, and the dense mix of restaurants and housing that have grown up around the area’s major employers.
A reduction of nearly 300 roles is a meaningful hit to the local creative-tech workforce, though it lands in a downtown employment base that has diversified considerably — spanning enterprise tech, professional services, and a growing residential population.
