A letter from the United States Postal Service to the City of Bellevue states that both the Midlakes and Bellevue Main Post Offices may relocate to one location just north of Bel-Red Road, at 120th Ave NE. The relocation is part of a cost cutting measure for the U.S.P.S. that would leave Downtown Bellevue without a US Post Office.
The new Bel-Red Road post office would be scheduled to open in mid 2013.
The post office is one of those entities people have a love/hate relationship with. They love to hate it, but once it’s not around they will miss it. If there is no longer a post office in Downtown Bellevue, I suspect people will miss it, I know I will. Will you?

May leave Downtown Bellevue without a location, right?
That’s not a bad place actually. Not too far, and parking should be fine. Plus I’m sure the rent will be heaps cheaper.
@Vincent, not sure what you’re question is…that’s what the headline says?!
While I understand the cost savings of consolidation, I’ve really liked having a post office in walking distance. With the large growth of residents in the central business district, moving the post office to a location that almost requires a car to get to seems exactly the wrong move.
@Michael: On my screen it shows as “with a location”. Here is a copy/paste:
Bellevue Post Office Consolidation May Leave Downtown Bellevue With a Location
I can take a screenshot too, if needed. 🙂
NM, I thought you were referring to something else. Thx, updated!
I used my first stamp in five years a few days ago. So no, don’t care if the post office moves.
From the building itself to the dangerous parking lot (it hasn’t been leveled and repaved since asphalt was invented, I think), the current downtown post office is an eye sore and has been in desparte need of improvements for years. That said, the downtown location is so handy for all of the businesses and residents in the downtown area.
Straight from the website spammed above: “Honesty, Integrity and Sincerity are our guiding principles. ”
Say, “James”, which of the guiding principles are you using when spamming blogs? Is it honesty, integrity, or perhaps sincerity?
As an avid user of postal services. I disagree with a move to outside of the CBD corridor. It is a terrible move logistically for those smaller businesses and personal use. I also have a PO Box at this location and am currently overseas, so I am a bit biased. I feel like I will have a headache now since this is my WA state address for all important matters.
I assure you the major businesses that use the postal service have a facility pick-up. So not much harm to them.
The future of the postal service remains clouded in uncertainty, but it will not go away soon. I for one do not mind paying extra postage to get mail across the country. $1.00 to get this message across America? I can do it for cheaper myself! . . . I think not.
I think a downtown relo site is necessary for any continued success of the postal service in the Bellevue area. Relocation will diminish profits.
I always supported the post office my dad died working for the post office and every day he worked there he was prod of his job his work and he people he worked with. And know he has passed I have meet my postman Shawn and he has no right to wear this uniform he is in my option a pice of sxxx refuses to stop in my store to pick up main parks his truck in front of my work place takin up three spaces so my customer have to park far away and walk he stops in every other store in our shopping strip even the bar to talk to all the ladies and see if they have mail but will not stop in my store even after requesting he stop every day cause we always have mail going out and when he drops old our main he puts it on our counter And leave befor I can get to the front there has been time were we have found our mail just in or lobby were customers and who knows who could walk off with our mail and other important mail once again in my oppion the post office will not be around and mother 100 years even a nother 10 years with people like Bellevue Nebraska post office drivers like Shawn
@Wil: I think you got the wrong Bellevue. We’re Bellevue, Washington, not Bellevue, Nebraska. 🙂
@Vincent, LOL. Wil must have been wondering why the skyline doesn’t look like the photo header.
Until he got to the Nebraska part, I was confusing it for our postman who is incidentally also named Shawn, but is the nicest postman I have ever had. He is the one with the pony tail and I think he serves part of the downtown, Meydenbauer and Enatai areas.
