David Barton Gym Bellevue Photo

The widely anticipated David Barton Gym at The Bravern in Downtown Bellevue is now open for members, workouts and tours. With close to 40,000 square feet on 2 levels, the space is full of top of the line cardio equipment, weights, group exercise rooms, and a gorgeous Pilates studio. This is not your Pro Club where you might go for the family swim class or a gym chain with a manufactured feeling, but if you’re serious about results, classes, and training you should feel comfortable at DBG.

As you make your way through The Bravern parking garage maze, find the “amethyst” elevator and it will take you directly to the unique lobby of the gym. Much has been said about the exciting interior design…As you walk in the long front entryway you see the rounded walls that remind of a skateboard half-pipe. The smoothie bar is still in the works, and they have a small retail section with an eclectic assortment of items.

Six Pack Attack, Ass Blast, Pain & Pleasure, and Yoga for Jocks are just a few of the catchy names and cool classes that David Barton Gym is offering free with membership. I have tried about a half dozen of the classes, including Pilates, and have to say I am impressed. They have a huge selection of classes at all times of the day. With a background in fitness, I can appreciate that in most cases the group exercise instructors are the personal trainers. Seems like a good way to take a “test drive” to see if you like their style and energy before committing to buying training sessions and also a great way for the trainers to build relationships with future clients. I can tell they are focused on results and I am looking forward to my complimentary training session.

The gym is robustly staffed, kept in great order, and is immaculate. The Cardio Theater on every piece of their new Life Fitness cardio equipment is a huge bonus. Time flies doing cardio with a built-in TV and iPod docking station on my treadmill, bike, or elliptical. Bathrooms and locker rooms are well stocked with fluffy white towels, top notch body wash, shampoo/conditioner, razors, Listerine…you name it. The upscale locker rooms, sauna, and steam room are amazing and make you feel like you are visiting a 5-star salon & spa.

While I haven’t seen any of Seattle’s A-list celebrities pumping iron or taking classes, I have seen some Project Managers from Microsoft, marketing folks from Expedia, and the occasional soccer mom from Bellevue. Members are not pretentious, but regular people that are friendly and offer up the occasional smiling hello. No attitude from employees, but instead a friendly knowledgeable staff with people from all walks of life and fitness backgrounds.

On my adventure to “Look Better Naked,” next classes on the list to try are Guns and Rope Burn…See you at the gym!

  1. It looks so beautiful in there — I’d be afraid to sweat! Nice to know members are enjoying the different offerings and the gym is providing lots of new things to keep people’s workouts from getting boring!

  2. I love the floor they have in the yoga room and how clean it is!

  3. I am not a member, but gym looks pretty empty (at least from outside). Can somebody tell me if my impression is correct?

  4. I am a member, you should come and check it out. It’s really great!

  5. I can’t wait to go try it out! I’m looking for a gym that has a ton of classes to offer. I love classes! Also, from driving by, and the pic…..the ambience looks really cool! Can’t wait to check it out!

  6. Chances of this becoming a Microsoft benefit?

  7. First off I want to say David Barton Gym ROCKS! I love it! I am so impressed with the facility and staff. Every time I walk in to the DB Gym I am still in shock it is a gym. David and his team sure have an amazing concept and product.
I joined the gym before it even opened and I am going to continue my membership and refer all my friends.
If you have not been in to check out the posh facility and state of the art equipment, you must! You will be totally impressed.
The management also listens well to customer feedback and suggestions. One thing I suggested they decided implement. It is a new facility, and fist David Barton Gym on the west coast– so there will be some things they need to work out…. However, I am a happy and please member and will continue to support DB Gym.

  8. Sorry, I need to use spell check! LOL.

    decided TO implement
    FIRST David Barton Gym

  9. Very informative post! Makes me want to hit the gym and get going! Sounds like a beautiful place.

  10. Great info, well written. I’ll have to check it out!

  11. I am enjoying it too, the only place that I can offer feedback that is actionable (other than things like the garage sucks)is with the music/dj. Not to sound like an old fuddy duddy but sometimes it is so loud that I can’t hear my own ipod. i think there is a little room for compromise here, everyone works out their own way….

  12. I like the gym as well. They have great classes and motivated staff. They, however, do need to work on the steam room as it smells. I brought this issue to David Barton and he told me that they were aware of the issue and are working on it.

  13. Agreed on that steam room… wheew! However, the attention to detail and the modern edge that the gym offers has been well liked by me. I have taken some classes and I am highly impressed by the trainers and teachers alike. and yes vuesociety, look better naked 🙂

  14. I tried Yoga for Jocks and a spin class and both were really good!

  15. awesome! My coworker and I are maybe interested… But how expensive is it? And I heard there’s a big initiation fee?

  16. love it @ db gym. i rather go workout there than going to a shady/skany nightclub. LOL!

  17. Awesome club, great staff and manager!! Great vibe and atmosphere!

  18. What’s up, after reading this amazing post i am as well cheerful to share my knowledge here with colleagues.
