Bike To Work - BellevueMay 21st, 2010 is the official Bike To Work Day. The Downtown Bellevue Network and Gregg’s Cycle are sponsoring “Bike To Work Day Bellevue” to encourage you to get out of your car and onto a bike for a day! In the coming weeks we will be announcing some fun ways that we will reward those that get involved and participate on the 21st!

The transportation organization Choose Your Way Bellevue is also participating in Bike To Work Day and hosting Downtown Bellevue’s Commute Station at Commuter Connection in the morning from 6:00am – 9:00am. Stop by on bike for coffee, snacks, and give-aways.

Don’t know where to start planning for a bike commute? Here are some great resources for biking to work, or anywhere in Downtown Bellevue for that matter.

Choose Your Way Bellevue
Chooseyourwaybellevue.com is an online resource that is your one-stop shop for everything related to travel in Bellevue. There is a “Bike” section that helps to plan bicycling for your commute. Helpful resources on the site include a Bellevue Bike Map, Downtown Bike Rack Map, and information about the Commuter Connection Store.

The Commuter Connection Store
The Commuter Connection Store is a secure bicycle parking facility that is open 24 hours a day located in the Rider Services Building at the Bellevue Transit Center. The store also provides lockers for storing personal items. Staff members are available Monday – Friday, from 11am – 1pm for planning trips by bus, carpool, vanpool, or bike. For more details visit Chooseyourwaybellevue.com.

“Bicycling” & Google Maps
In March of this year Google Maps added a new feature that allows you to enter your destination points and choose “Bicycling” as the preferred vehicle. By choosing “Bicycling” the application provides directions that include bike lanes and calculate rider-friendly routes that avoid big hills.

  1. It’s really sad that it’s 2010 and we have NO bike lanes in DT Bellevue.

Living and Working in downtown bellevue, I find dealing with the bike more effort than simply walking.

There’s a similar effect with riding a motorcycle. You need all of the safety gear that are just part of an automobile. (weather protection as well as impact protection.)

Is it legal to ride bikes on the sidewalks in Bellevue?

  3. No, it’s not sad! Bikers should stay on trails and at the park. I love to ride a bike but hate driving behind one on the road. They slow down traffic. I say pedestriants should “share the road”.
