The City of Bellevue is developing a comprehensive Electric Vehicle (EV) Roadmap to ensure adequate infrastructure, policies, and programs to support the anticipated increase in electric vehicles. The draft roadmap details strategies to accommodate the growing number of EVs on Bellevue streets and the necessary charging infrastructure for homes, workplaces, and public locations.

The roadmap projects the future growth of EVs in Bellevue and establishes a framework to handle this expansion. This initiative is part of the Sustainable Bellevue Plan, which aims for 25% EV adoption by 2030 and 100% by 2050. Additionally, the plan targets an 80% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Currently, about 9% of vehicles in Bellevue are electric. This figure is expected to rise to over 30% by 2030. Bellevue has fewer than 650 publicly accessible EV chargers at present. To meet future needs, the city will require more than 2,800 public chargers. Besides public charging infrastructure, there is also a need to ensure that residents, including those in multifamily housing, have adequate home charging options.

City staff initiated work on the roadmap last winter, incorporating feedback from community members and stakeholders throughout the winter and spring.

The public is invited to review and provide feedback on the draft roadmap from Monday, September 9, to Monday, September 23.
