Cafe Cesura, a locally owned coffee shop, has closed, as confirmed by a realtor at Kidder Mathews. It was located in the Ashton Apartment Tower at 1015 108th Avenue Northeast, just steps from KidsQuest Children’s Museum.
According to King County records, Cafe Cesura closed on October 17, 2024. The facility continued to operate despite receiving a temporary closure order, requiring it to remain closed until overdue fees were paid.
We contacted the owner, Shawn Nickerson, for comment but did not receive a response.
The coffee shop opened its doors in November 2011, inspired by the espresso culture of Paris. At that time, it partnered with Stumptown Coffee Roasters to bring its vision to life.
In 2022, Cafe Cesura opened a second location at The Watermark at Bellevue, but it closed after just a couple of years. In addition to coffee, the shop offered sandwiches and pastries, before The Watermark at Bellevue took ownership of the business.
Tough to see this shop close. No one tried harder.
I used to go there a lot even during the early pandemic days, then the quality went downhill and the owner posted some crazy ‘non-coffee’ related things. Was shocked to see a second location to be honest.
Agree with Kenneth. Something iffy about that company’s online presence. Very defensive about it too. Shame it was a neat little place notwithstanding.
The owner was a piece of “work”. Spoiled his name in the neighborhood attacking people in the park with dogs. Calling names to random people.
You know not run successful business in the neighborhood with that attitude towards community
makes sense, owner was a dick to customers in a business that now more than ever needs a positive atmosphere
The owner turned out to be quite the shady character. Anyone following his ‘rants’ and comments online knew it was hard to continue to support him. Hate speech never pays off. Sure you have the right but not without consequence. As another person said, I was also surprised to see a 2nd location. I hope another small business comes along to make good use of the spot.
Not a loss.
The owner definitely needs some professional help!
So glad this place closed. I was tip shamed last time I was there because he expected a cash tip and not a tip via gift card. Said he didn’t understand why techies don’t tip.. I corrected him that I wasn’t tech. He then pegged me as finance. I told him I wasn’t that either. The fact he’s dissing the main industries in his area.. I was shocked how long he lasted. His squaresite wasn’t up to date and he ignored me when I asked what packaged goods were available. Never went back in person to try to redeem the rest of my gift card. Glad he closed down.
