Alley 111 is the 12-story apartment building at 11011 NE 9th St, with its storefronts on NE 8th Street at 111th Ave NE, directly across from The Shops at The Bravern on the east side of downtown Bellevue. Skanska USA developed it and opened it in 2015 with 260 homes — studios, one-bedrooms and two-bedrooms over a retail level — and Avenue5 Residential manages it today. The interiors lean industrial, with concrete ceilings and beams, open kitchen shelving and floor-to-ceiling windows in select homes, and the building’s best room is on top: a rooftop deck and lounge with a full kitchen, bar, grills and a fireplace facing the Cascades and Mount Rainier. It is LEED Silver certified.

DBN has followed the site since August 2012, when Skanska’s commercial development arm bought the 41,000-square-foot lot — already named Alley 111 — and promised apartments with an “activated ground floor.” In October 2013 DBN reported the plan had settled at 12 stories, 260 units and 247 parking stalls, with construction starting that November, and in January 2014 new renderings showed 11 residential floors over retail, a large rooftop and a lantern room, with completion slated for September 2015. The ground floor filled in after opening: Honor Coffee arrived in June 2016, and Minamoto, a sushi and omakase restaurant, opened at the base in March 2017 and remains one of the building’s two retail partners, alongside Story Coffee & Tea. In 2022 DBN was still counting Alley 111 among Skanska’s Bellevue projects, alongside its office tower The Eight on NE 8th and 108th.

It suits a renter who wants a mid-rise with a real roof deck, a short walk to the 2 Line and the office towers around The Bravern. See how it compares in our guide to every downtown Bellevue apartment building.

“The rooftop is the amenity; everything else is a crosswalk away at The Bravern.” — DBN Editors
Editorial note: This is an independent DBN profile — Alley 111 did not pay for coverage and has no say in it. Facts verified against official sources September 2026; details can change, so confirm on the official site.

Getting Around & Living Here

NE 8th at 111th is the luxury-retail end of downtown; the notes below are for prospective renters and visitors.

Getting There & Parking

  • Drive: Residents park in the underground garage, which DBN’s 2013 report sized at 247 stalls; the building’s site lists assigned electric-vehicle spots and eight charging stations, with parking paid per vehicle. No guest-parking policy is published, so visitors should ask the leasing office before driving in.
  • Light rail: 2 Line to Bellevue Downtown Station, then north on 110th Ave NE past The Bravern and east across NE 8th to 111th — see our light rail guide
  • On foot: The Shops at The Bravern — Hermès, Louis Vuitton and John Howie Steak — are across NE 8th; the Elements towers are just north toward NE 10th, and Lincoln Square and Bellevue Square are west along NE 8th past 108th and Bellevue Way.

What It’s Like

NE 8th Street is one of downtown’s main east-west arterials, feeding I-405 a couple of blocks east, so the front of the building is busy with traffic and office commuters by day, while The Bravern’s plazas across the street supply the evening crowd. The building’s own site sells the roof — mountain views, a full kitchen and bar, a fireplace — and community-sponsored resident social events. It suits a renter who works in the office towers on the east side of downtown or rides the 2 Line, wants a newer mid-rise rather than a high-rise, and has a dog, a bike or a pair of skis that needs a home.

What’s Nearby

The nearest DBN-profiled stops: John Howie Steak across NE 8th at The Shops at The Bravern, Hermès on the same stretch of NE 8th at The Bravern, or Chutneys a couple of blocks north on 110th at NE 10th.

Good to Know

Pets: cats and dogs are welcome, up to two per home, with breed restrictions listed on the building’s site. Leases shorter than 12 months are offered when available, the whole property is non-smoking, and residents sort recycling and garbage through a trash chute system. The street address is NE 9th Street, but the storefronts and most foot traffic are on NE 8th; Minamoto and Story Coffee & Tea are open to the public.
