The Bellevue Collection

Avalon Towers Bellevue stands at Bellevue Way and NE 10th Street, a block north of Bellevue Square and across Bellevue Way from the Hyatt Regency, in two towers of 13 and 23 stories holding 396 apartments. AvalonBay built it and still leases it, offering studios, one- and two-bedrooms with European-style kitchens, hardwood floors and private patios. The shared spaces are on top — a rooftop fitness center, sundeck and resident lounge with a rooftop clubhouse — and the building is LEED Silver certified with a green roof. Of AvalonBay’s three downtown buildings it is the tall one: Avalon Meydenbauer, over the Safeway at NE 4th, is the seven-story family-sized option, and Avalon Bellevue at NE 10th and 110th is the four-story original.

DBN first wrote about it in July 2008, when AvalonBay planned roughly 400 apartments, 8,000 square feet of retail and 685 parking spaces on the Bellevue Way corner where Blockbuster was closing, in an Ankrom Moisan design we called more distinctive than Avalon Meydenbauer. It opened in April 2010, and that May DBN held its third-anniversary party for about 150 guests on the building’s 15th-floor deck. In January 2011 the Bellevue Downtown Association named it the year’s best residential development. The retail base filled in quickly: Black Bottle Postern opened on the Bellevue Way corner in March 2011, with a Jos. A. Bank, a CorePower Yoga studio, Recoop spa and a Roosters barbershop following.

It suits renters who want a studio or one-bedroom with a view, a walk to Bellevue Square and Bellevue Place, and a restaurant downstairs. See how it stacks up in our guide to every downtown Bellevue apartment building.

“The Blockbuster corner became a two-tower rental address with a rooftop clubhouse and Black Bottle on the ground floor.” — DBN Editors

Getting Around & Living Here

The north end of Bellevue Way is hotel-and-office downtown; the notes below are for prospective renters and visitors.

Getting There & Parking

  • Drive: Residents rent open parking spaces in the building garage for a monthly fee, per avaloncommunities.com, which lists EV outlets. Guests of residents get three hours of free parking with validation from the Leasing Center (longer stays are paid), and prospective renters on a tour are validated for up to three hours. Black Bottle diners use the same garage, entered off NE 10th.
  • Light rail: 2 Line to Bellevue Downtown Station, then west along NE 8th Street and north on Bellevue Way to NE 10th — see our light rail guide
  • On foot: Bellevue Square is a block south along Bellevue Way; Bellevue Place, the Hyatt Regency and the Wintergarden are across the street; Lincoln Square and Avenue Bellevue are a short walk south; the library blocks are east along NE 10th.

What It’s Like

Bellevue Way at NE 10th is the business-hotel end of the core: conference and office traffic by day, restaurant traffic at night, and the holiday crush around Bellevue Square a block south. The upper floors of the 23-story tower look over the Collection, and DBN’s 2010 party on the 15th-floor deck is a fair preview of the view. It suits someone who wants a smaller home in a full-service high-rise — the site lists concierge service and a smoke-free building — more than square footage.

What’s Nearby

The closest DBN-profiled stops: Black Bottle on the building’s own Bellevue Way corner, 13 Coins across Bellevue Way at Bellevue Place, or Hyatt Regency Bellevue across the street, for visiting family.

Good to Know

Pets: cats and dogs are welcome, with restricted dog breeds and restricted animals (ferrets, rabbits, reptiles and others) listed on avaloncommunities.com. The building is smoke free, homes have central air conditioning, and select homes are available furnished through AvalonBay’s Furnished+ program. The towers share the 10349 NE 10th St address; the ground-floor shops use their own Bellevue Way and NE 10th numbers.
