Storeables Out of Business BellevueStoreables, the storage and organizing solutions retailer, on Bellevue Way across from the post office is now closed and out of business.

Between the downturn in the economy and The Container Store opening up a couple of years ago, this has likely made it tough on Storables.

The space is now empty after they closed their doors a couple of weeks ago.

  1. Storables is not “out of business.” You may visit their store locations in Seattle (University Village) or Lynnwood (Target Plaza) or online at http://www.storables.com.

The reason the Bellevue location closed is that the monthly rent was increased by more than $13,000 per month in Feb. 2009. This in the midst of the worst recession in how many years?

  2. “Out of business” is a relative term. They are out of business in Bellevue.

  3. I heard that The Container Store’s opening didn’t affect Storables’ business much overall because parking was just so much easier at there than at Lincoln Square.

  4. Well clearly it didn’t help them…they are no longer there.

  5. I am sorry to hear this. Their prices were much better than that of the Container Store.

  6. There’s an inherent problem with a place like that, in that every time I drive by ther, it looks like all the shelves are empty. This is, of course, not the case, but if you’ve got a whole store full of empty containers, how are you going to convince people of that?

  7. Sucks. They were way cheaper than container store with basically the same stuff for sale.

  8. All these types of stores are s**t. Just shop at Target — much cheaper.

  9. Michael – I think you were too nice here saying the economy and The Container store were major reasons why the Bellevue location has shut down.

This is just another example of a company that a) didn’t know how to create or manage a business in Bellevue, or b) didn’t take advantage of today’s business tools to help them in an amazing community!

Greg – I don’t think that the up in rent was the ONLY reason (or the most important reason) that the location closed.

  10. Yea. That retail space has been available for rent forEVER it feels like.

Finally the out of business news is released

  11. Yeah, yeah, yeah…we were late on this one.

  12. Vik,

You are mistaken. The rent was the ONLY reason. Storables had been in Bellevue since 1985, beginning in Bellevue Square. But clearly you have all the answers for creating and managing a business in Bellevue and for using “today’s business tools.”
    Congratulations.

  15. Greg – I wouldn’t have commented unless I had read a little bit about Storables’ history (e.g. how it’s done in good and bad markets, past store closures, quotes from you).

Apologies if it came across too harsh, but if I can be of help to you and your executive team, I would love to chat with you.

I’m fairly easy to get a hold of.
