A new City of Bellevue incentive program called “Downtown Bellevue On the Move” is offering financial rewards and travel assistance to downtown residents and workers who are willing to stop commuting solo. The program goal is to increase the use of alternative commutes downtown to 40 percent of all commute trips. The current percentage of alternative commutes is 35%.
The City of Bellevue will provide the following incentives for bus riding carpooling, vanpooling, biking or walking to work:
- A $50 gift card: Commuters living or working in Bellevue can earn a $50 gift card after logging 25 days of roundtrip commutes by bus, carpool, vanpool, bike or walking to work.
- Ongoing monthly drawings for gift cards: After the initial 25 day commutes, participants that continue logging alternative commutes will be entered into monthly drawings for two $50 gift cards. All that is required is to log 12 days of round-trips per month of alternative commutes.
Sign up for the program at www.DBOnTheMove.org, where you will find information about other promotional incentives through King County Metro and Wheel Options. The site also includes information regarding vanpool and carpool partner matching, a transit trip planner and a commute cost calculator. Another source regarding alternative transportation modes includes the city’s travel options website, www.ChooseYourWayBellevue.org.
