Sushi Tei, a well-established Japanese restaurant chain with more than 50 locations across Asia, is planning to open its first U.S. location at The Bellevue Collection in September 2026.

The upcoming restaurant will occupy a 6,290-square-foot space previously home to P.F. Chang’s, which closed in January 2022 due to internal matters the company did not disclose. The new venue will seat approximately 200 guests.

Founded in 1994, Sushi Tei is known for its focus on fresh ingredients, Japanese culinary techniques, and an open-kitchen format that showcases chef preparation as part of the dining experience. The chain describes its concept as approachable Japanese dining centered on quality, craftsmanship, and attentive hospitality. Today, Sushi Tei operates more than 50 restaurants throughout Southeast Asia.

The Bellevue location opening marks the company’s entry into the U.S. market, a move Sushi Tei has been evaluating since 2019. According to the company, the United States’ position as the largest consumer market, combined with anticipated growth in the Japanese food service sector, presented a strategic opportunity.

After several years of research, the brand selected the Pacific Northwest as its starting point, citing the region’s cosmopolitan population, strong infrastructure, global business presence, and interest in high-quality dining.

“We’re excited to introduce Sushi Tei’s signature blend of quality, craftsmanship, and hospitality to guests who seek elevated experiences at The Bellevue Collection,” said Alen Tan, Director at Sushi Tei. He added that the restaurant aims to deliver an experience rooted in premium ingredients and precision, emphasizing that the goal is for every guest to feel their visit was “worth every penny.”

Sushi Tei noted that its entry into the region has been supported by local partnerships, including with Kemper Development Company. The brand views its Bellevue opening as the foundation for future U.S. expansion, with plans to eventually bring its concept to the West Coast, East Coast, and other major markets.
