City of Bellevue records show that Amazon is resuming interior build-out work on The Artise, a 25-story office tower in Downtown Bellevue that had been paused for more than a year.

Permit applications for renovations at the 611,000-square-foot tower at 788 106th Avenue NE were submitted beginning in September, signaling movement on an Amazon-leased project capable of accommodating thousands of employees.

Public filings indicate that Amazon plans to complete all 25 stories of the tower, with one submission valuing the project at approximately $80 million.

The Artise sits at the corner of 106th Avenue NE and Northeast 8th Street on a 1.5-acre site that includes planned retail uses, common areas, and the 25-story office structure. Amazon first announced its lease agreement with developer Schnitzer West in March 2021, describing the more than 600,000-square-foot tower as a future office hub expected to open in 2024.

Construction was partially paused in July 2022 when Amazon halted six Bellevue office projects while reassessing its long-term workplace strategy. During the pause, work was limited to the exterior core and shell, lobby floors, communal areas, and retail space.

The indications of renewed building activity come as Amazon continues to expand its footprint in Bellevue. The company’s workforce in the city has grown from 2,790 employees to 14,300, and Amazon estimates it will eventually employ about 25,000 people in Bellevue.

The updates also arrive as Amazon undergoes a broader corporate restructuring. In a recent state filing, Amazon reported that it will lay off 2,303 employees across Washington in October 2025. The affected roles span software engineering, human resources, product management, data engineering, user experience design, and recruitment.

Amazon has not disclosed how many of the impacted employees are based in Bellevue. The company stated that employees will receive severance pay, internal mobility options, outplacement services, and continued health coverage. The tech company noted that it will continue hiring in targeted growth areas tied to its long-term strategy.

Amazon’s continued work on The Artise reinforces Bellevue’s role as a key hub for the company.
