Bellevue Seeks Public Input on Downtown Growth, Housing, and Open Space Plan

The City of Bellevue has begun work on Downtown Livability 2.0, a proposed update to land use regulations aimed at shaping the future growth of downtown Bellevue while preserving key elements that contribute to its character and quality of life.

The effort builds on the city’s original Downtown Livability amendments, adopted in 2017, which were designed to guide development as downtown Bellevue experienced significant growth as both a business center and residential neighborhood. Those changes focused on maintaining a balance between development, open space, and mixed-use projects.

As downtown continues to evolve, city officials are reviewing the effectiveness of the existing regulations and exploring ways to better support housing opportunities, strengthen connections to the Grand Connection corridor, and reinforce the historic character of Main Street in Old Bellevue.

According to the city, the proposed code amendment would continue to emphasize longstanding planning goals centered on public open spaces, walkability, and an accessible urban environment.

To gather public input, Bellevue is launching a community engagement process this summer. Residents and stakeholders will have an opportunity to learn about the proposal and ask questions during two upcoming information sessions: an in-person meeting on June 15 and a virtual session on June 17.

While registration through Eventbrite is encouraged, it is not required. Additional details about the initiative and upcoming events are available through the city’s Downtown Livability 2.0 program.
