According to permits submitted to the City of Bellevue, Barnes & Noble plans to open at Bellevue Square. The bookstore will be located on the first level, where Z Gallerie was previously open. The address is 1140 Bellevue Square.
The American bookseller, which boasts the largest number of retail outlets in the U.S., previously operated a store in downtown Bellevue for 29 years. In May 2022, Barnes & Noble announced its closure and relocation to Crossroads Mall.
In 2019, Onni Group, a Canadian developer, purchased the land where Barnes & Noble had operated for almost three decades for $116 million. They plan to construct a three-tower mixed-use project, with each tower standing 600 feet tall. The project will include two residential buildings with hotel components and one commercial office building.
The exact opening date for Barnes & Noble at Bellevue Square remains unknown.
Z Gallerie, known for its home decor and furniture at accessible price points, closed its doors at this location in 2019 after three years of business. The LA-based company shuttered all its Washington locations following a bankruptcy filing, with reported debts of $138 million.
Before Z Gallerie, Go! Calendars, Toys and Games occupied this space. The store later moved kitty-corner to a larger location and is still open.
Finally there is a physical bookstore in Bellevue again!
Great news!
What wonderful news to have B&N reopen in downtown Bellevue!!
That will be nice. It will bring back memories from going to the old location, in the Danz building, on 106th. I still have a gift card given to my wife (may she requiescat in pace) when it was in that location.
