
According to the Bellevue Police Department, a tragic traffic collision on Friday night, May 2, claimed the life of an 18-year-old motorcyclist and temporarily shut down a major intersection in the city.
At approximately 9:40 p.m., Bellevue Police and Fire personnel responded to reports of a crash at the intersection of NE 8th Street and 116th Avenue NE. Witnesses reported that a motorcycle had collided with another vehicle in the intersection.
An initial investigation conducted by Bellevue Police revealed that the motorcyclist had been traveling northbound on 116th Avenue NE at a high rate of speed when he struck a vehicle heading westbound through the intersection.
Despite life-saving efforts by Bellevue Fire, the young motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The intersection remained closed for several hours during the investigation but has since reopened to the public. Bellevue Police say the investigation is ongoing.
