Meta Cuts 699 Bellevue Jobs Amid Wider Washington Layoffs

Meta has reduced its workforce across multiple Washington state locations, including Seattle, Bellevue, and Redmond, according to a recent Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed with the state.

The filing shows that 1,395 employees in Washington were impacted this week as part of a broader reduction affecting about 10% of the company’s global workforce. The cuts are tied to the company’s continued shift in priorities toward artificial intelligence and efforts to streamline operations.

Employees affected by the layoffs are expected to leave the company on July 22, following notices issued on May 20, according to the filing.

Breakdowns provided in the notice show 259 layoffs in Seattle, 699 in Bellevue, 206 in Redmond, and 231 remote workers based in Washington.

Company communications have indicated that additional rounds of layoffs are planned later this year, with further reductions expected in August and again in the fall, based on reporting around internal updates.

In a memo to staff, HR chief Janelle Gale said the restructuring is intended to help the company operate more efficiently while supporting continued investment in artificial intelligence initiatives.

Before these reductions, Meta’s workforce in the Puget Sound region totaled roughly 8,000 employees, while its global headcount stood at about 78,865 at the end of 2025.

The latest cuts add to earlier reductions in the state, bringing the total number of Washington-based layoffs to nearly 2,000 since October 2025, including an additional 600 positions eliminated in prior rounds of restructuring.

Software engineering roles made up roughly a third of the affected positions, with additional reductions concentrated in product engineering, technical roles, and product management teams.
