The Bellevue Collection

Avalon Meydenbauer fills the block on the east side of Bellevue Way between NE 2nd and NE 4th streets — the corner DBN described in 2007 as kitty-corner to Bellevue Square — with 368 apartment homes over a street-level retail base anchored by Safeway. AvalonBay owns and leases it. Per the King County Assessor the homes run seven stories and break down into 78 studios, 174 one-bedrooms, 93 two-bedrooms and 23 three-bedrooms, which makes it the family-sized option among AvalonBay’s three downtown buildings: Avalon Towers Bellevue at Bellevue Way and NE 10th is the high-rise, and Avalon Bellevue at NE 10th and 110th is the older, smaller low-rise.

DBN watched it rise. In June 2007 we reported that the Avalon Meydenbauer apartments were taking form on the block with Safeway building its new store below, and in January 2008 we announced it ready for move-in, the first of a wave of downtown rental buildings. Safeway moved across the street from its 1963 store into the 55,000-square-foot space below that June. The storefronts have turned over steadily since — Subway and CeFiore came and went, Museum Quality Framing moved in from Park Row in 2023, and in January 2026 DBN reported that Salt & Straw would open its first Bellevue scoop shop at 10415 NE 4th, in the former Starbucks pickup store at the building’s base.

It suits renters who want the Collection, Downtown Park and groceries all within a block, and need room for a family. Compare it with every other building in our guide to downtown Bellevue apartments.

“The building DBN called downtown’s most conveniently located in 2008 still has the supermarket in the basement to back it up.” — DBN Editors

Getting Around & Living Here

The south end of Bellevue Way is the busy retail edge of downtown; the notes below are for prospective renters and visitors.

Getting There & Parking

  • Drive: Residents park in the underground, controlled-access garage for an added monthly fee, per avaloncommunities.com, which also lists EV charging stations and an on-site Zipcar. Guests of residents park free in designated spaces next to the Leasing Center, and prospective renters on a tour get complimentary spaces there too.
  • Light rail: 2 Line to Bellevue Downtown Station, then south to NE 4th Street and west along NE 4th to Bellevue Way — see our light rail guide
  • On foot: Bellevue Square is kitty-corner across Bellevue Way and NE 4th; Lincoln Square South is directly across NE 4th; Downtown Park is across Bellevue Way and a short walk west; Old Main’s restaurants start a few blocks south.

What It’s Like

This is the grocery-run corner of downtown: Safeway’s lot and entrances keep NE 4th and Bellevue Way busy through the day and all weekend, and holiday traffic around Bellevue Square spills onto the same intersection. In return the building sits between the Collection and Downtown Park, with Lincoln Square across the street. It is a seven-story mid-rise rather than a tower, so the pitch is location and space — three-bedrooms are rare downtown — rather than skyline views.

What’s Nearby

The closest DBN-profiled stops: Wild Ginger across NE 4th at Lincoln Square South, Ascend Prime Steak & Sushi on the 31st floor of the tower across NE 4th, or Takai by Kashiba across NE 2nd in the One88 tower.

Good to Know

Pets: cats and dogs are welcome with a limit of two pets per home, and avaloncommunities.com lists restricted dog breeds and restricted animals (ferrets, rabbits, reptiles and others); check the list before applying. AvalonBay’s Furnished+ program offers furnished homes with Wi-Fi and utilities bundled on flexible leases, and finish packages vary from classic to renovated homes. Addresses vary: the apartments use 10410 NE 2nd St, while the shops are numbered on NE 4th and Bellevue Way.
