Matcha Magic will close its cafe at 10246 Main Street in Old Bellevue on Nov. 1. The storefront sits on the site of North of Main, an eight-story residential and retail building planned for Main Street and 103rd Avenue Northeast.
The plant-forward matcha bar opened in May 2022 in the former Jujubeet space. Founder Rachel Barnecut started the brand on Main Street. Matcha Magic has since added cafes in Redmond, Capitol Hill, South Lake Union, New Orleans and Tempe, Arizona.
Conscious Hospitality Group, a Bellevue-based company, operates Matcha Magic and invests in and grows food and beverage brands, including Just Poke, SUGO Handroll Bar and HAPS Burgers. When Downtown Bellevue Network reached out, the company said Matcha Magic is looking for a new location in Bellevue.
Vander Hoek Corporation’s North of Main project calls for 176 market-rate apartments, 10,363 square feet of ground-floor commercial space and 154 parking stalls. The site covers about 31,148 square feet, or 0.71 acres, and every existing building on it will be removed. The project vested under the earlier zoning, so it is exempt from the interim development rules the City Council adopted for Main Street in February. In July the council extended those rules through February 2027. They do not require property owners to keep existing tenants.
Matcha Magic is one of several Main Street businesses leaving ahead of construction. Glassybaby closed its store at 10230 Main Street, where it had operated since October 2009. It opened a larger store on Oct. 1 at Design Market, 1048 116th Ave NE. La Ree Boutique closed Sept. 25, 2025 after 20 years.
A new Bellevue location and reopening timeline for Matcha Magic have not been announced.
