Two Bellevue Parks to Undergo Significant Improvements This Year

Construction is set to begin December 1 at Robinswood Park on a project that will replace synthetic turf on two sports fields and install upgraded field lighting. The work is partially funded by the voter-approved 2022 Parks and Open Space Levy.

According to the City of Bellevue, Robinswood Park contains the most heavily used sports fields in the park system. In 2025, 35 community groups — including schools, sports organizations, and families — made approximately 2,000 field reservations at the two fields, in addition to city-run youth programs and regular drop-in use.

The new turf will support multiple sports for both youth and adults, including soccer and lacrosse. The project also includes the addition of a cricket pitch to expand program options for Bellevue’s diverse community. While construction is underway, most sports programming will be relocated to other local fields.

The synthetic turf, which has a typical lifespan of about 10 years, is being replaced as it nears the end of its use cycle. The fields are expected to reopen in the spring. As part of the project, new energy-efficient lighting will be installed around the perimeter of the fields.

The Robinswood Park sports fields are located at 14919 SE 22nd St.

In addition to the work at Robinswood Park, another Bellevue park is preparing for redevelopment. Ashwood Park, located at 10875 NE 12th Street, is set for a transformation guided by the updated Ashwood Park Master Plan.

The preferred design outlined in the plan would reshape the 3.82-acre site into a more versatile community space. Proposed features include 1.25 acres of open lawn and plaza areas, a 0.25- to 0.5-acre off-leash dog area, a 4,000- to 8,000-square-foot children’s play area, two picnic shelters, an expanded path system, a parking and loading zone, and enhanced landscaping throughout the park.

The updated plan is intended to strengthen Ashwood Park’s role as a central gathering place in downtown Bellevue and support the city’s goals for accessible, family-friendly green space.
