According to the City of Bellevue, the food truck pilot program at City Hall Plaza will be extended through October 31. The program, which features a rotation of 11 different food trucks will continue to operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The extension follows positive feedback from both downtown workers and vendors. The program has successfully drawn people to the recently remodeled City Hall Plaza for midday gatherings.

The food truck initiative is part of Bellevue’s Grand Connection program. This program, along with the pedestrian crossing over I-405, is designed to enhance connectivity and create inviting public spaces throughout downtown Bellevue.

Other projects under this program include the expansion of Meydenbauer Bay Park, connections to Eastrail, and various exhibits, concerts, and programs along the corridor, all aimed at making downtown more vibrant and accessible.

The City of Bellevue noted that food trucks are an important aspect of the local business ecosystem, reflecting the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of their operators. However, finding a consistent and successful location in downtown Bellevue can be challenging for food trucks.

Rosario Alessio, owner of the L’Italiano food truck, stated, “Having tables and chairs in the plaza makes the space more welcoming, so customers can relax and enjoy their meals.” Alessio added, “Food trucks don’t just serve food. They help create a sense of community by bringing people out of the buildings and into public spaces.”

The city has provided tables, chairs, lawn games, and photo opportunities next to the giant #BVUE letters to enhance the lunchtime experience. Future programming for the plaza is being explored.
