Bellevue to Host Webinar on Meydenbauer Bay Park Expansion Designs

Meydenbauer Bay Park

The Parks & Community Services Department will host a webinar on Thursday, November 7, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. via Zoom to present proposed designs for the expansion of Meydenbauer Bay Park. Following the presentation, attendees can participate in a question-and-answer session with the design team. An online survey for community feedback will be open from November 7 to December 15.

During the webinar, community members can review the proposed designs, understand how public feedback has influenced the plans, and ask questions. Those who complete the survey will have the opportunity to enter a raffle for free ice-skating tickets provided by the Downtown Bellevue Ice Rink.

Meydenbauer Bay Park is known for its curved pier and scenic views. The first development phase, completed in 2019, included the addition of a pier, a significant expansion of the beach area, and the initiation of a pedestrian promenade.

For the last 18 months, city planners have been working on a second phase aimed at enhancing connectivity between the park and downtown. This phase will extend southward along the shoreline toward the intersection of 100th Avenue Northeast and Lake Washington Boulevard.

Community input gathered from meetings and surveys this far have indicated a demand for improved amenities, increased parking, and better access for pedestrians and water activities. The revised designs for the park expansion reflect these priorities, incorporating more greenery, seating, flexible covered areas, and pathways leading to the shoreline, according to the City of Bellevue.

Upon completing the design phase, the city will move forward with construction and permitting documentation. Construction will happen in phases, taking into account community priorities, feasibility, and available funding.
