TikTok’s U.S. Data Security (USDS) division has opened a new 40,000-square-foot office in Bellevue, designed by global architecture and design firm Gensler. The space blends natural materials, ambient lighting, and custom design elements to create what both companies describe as an immersive and inspiring workplace intended to attract employees back to the office.

Originally planned as a straightforward renovation, the project evolved into a flagship destination within TikTok’s real estate portfolio. With features like a dramatic pink-glass staircase, wellness rooms, and panoramic views of Mt. Rainier and the Seattle skyline, the design prioritizes both functionality and experience.

The space is tailored to a predominantly Gen Z and Millennial workforce, balancing open collaboration areas with quiet zones for focused work. Regional touches, including local art and Pacific Northwest-inspired graphics, are incorporated throughout the office.

“Our goal was to create a workspace that authentically reflects the spirit of the Pacific Northwest — where natural greenery, local culture, and a strong sense of place shape the daily employee experience,” said Melbie Balam, Head of Enterprise Services with TikTok USDS. “From the lush foliage woven throughout the space to the warm, library-inspired coffee lounge, every detail was curated to foster connection and well-being.”

According to Gensler, the project aligns with broader findings from its Global Workplace Survey, which shows that employees with more autonomy and a supportive work environment are significantly more likely to feel productive and stay with their companies.

Since 2021, the company has leased roughly 450,000 square feet of office space, gradually taking over vacated floors in both Key Center and Lincoln Square North in downtown Bellevue. TikTok’s parent ByteDance has rapidly expanded its Bellevue office footprint, focusing on two downtown towers: Key Center (601 108th Ave NE) and Lincoln Square North (10401 NE 8th St).

In late 2023, ByteDance “doubled down” at Key Center by adding roughly 66,000 sq ft to its existing 44,000 sq ft lease. Savills Q1 2024 report later confirmed another 45,078 sq ft was leased at Key Center, bringing its total there to about 155,000 sq ft.

At the same time, permit filings in January 2024 showed TikTok leasing floors 23–28 of Lincoln Square North (≈132,000 sq ft), and by spring, had taken over roughly 154,939 sq ft of former Microsoft space in that building.

By mid-2024, TikTok’s Bellevue offices thus totaled on the order of 150,000 sq ft at Lincoln Square North and a similar amount at Key Center.
