Mean Sandwich plans to open in mid-October at Lincoln South Food Hall in Downtown Bellevue, a representative for the restaurant said. The sandwich shop is moving into the second floor of Lincoln Square South at 500 Bellevue Way NE.
The new restaurant takes over the space that Great State Burger and King Leroy left when they closed. The two restaurants had opened together in the food hall in August 2024. Guests could order from either menu because the two were connected. The space is next to Dote Coffee Bar.
The Bellevue shop will be Mean Sandwich’s second location. The first is on Leary Way NW in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood.
Owner Dan Crookston, who loves every kind of sandwich, bought Mean Sandwich from the Pemouliés. The menu still has the seven original sandwiches the Pemouliés created. Crookston and his team have added two more: the Hama Hama Oyster Po’Boy and a double smashburger made with dry-aged meat, called “The D.A.M.burger.”
One of the signature items is The MEAN ($20). It has thick-cut corned beef brisket that is braised and then griddled to order. It comes topped with the shop’s own yellow mustard, pickled red cabbage and fresh mint on a challah bun griddled in butter.
Another is the WTK? A Fried Chicken Po’boy ($20). The chicken thighs are brined in buttermilk, dredged and deep-fried, then served on a banh mi bun. Toppings include spicy Calabrian chili relish, pickles made in the shop, hot lemon-pepper mayo and shredded lettuce.
Sandwiches cost $16 to $22. The menu also has sides, dipping sauces, a grilled cheese for kids and bread pudding for dessert.
Mean Sandwich will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
