The Seattle Times reported that the Bellevue City Council this week approved a downtown circulator bus that would run both directions in a loop along Bellevue Way, Main Street, 110th Avnenue Northeast and Northeast 10th Street.

The service, set to being late next year/early 2009, still have one more hurdle to clear: King County must approve it!

The service will be free for passengers, although the county may find some expenses that would require a small fare. The route would be service by three 19-person vans, operating from 6.00am to 7.00pm on weekdays and from 9.00am to 7.00pm on Saturdays.

  1. This is fantastic! My only complaint is that I wish the box would extend east to 116, so all the condo people moving in could take the free bus to the hospital / whole foods.

10th street has a ridiculous amount of density going in, a free bus will be great.

  2. Good point. There is really no good way to get to the east side of 405 on foot except across 12th and main streets. Trying to go across at 8th or 4th is like a real life version of frogger. Extending it to 116th is a great idea.

  3. I concur…WHOLE FOODS!

  4. lol you are right about it being like frogger, I have to practice on my apple 2 before I go out!

  5. Good news and this is a good precursor to making a one-way loop for traffic as well. (Seems like the big question was whether it would go clockwise or counter-clockwise.) Hopefully this will integrate with the other transit options in Bellevue.

  6. Just two requests Bellevue:

    1. When the 10th overpass is finished we run the free bus to 116th and loop back on 4th to 110.

    2. Make some one way streets so I can have some bikes lanes, right now there are 0 in downtown Bellevue.

    Thanks!

  7. I’m super excited about this, this would be fantastic!!
