Historic Winters House on Bellevue Way Under Wraps Until Light Rail Completes

The Winters House, located on Bellevue Way, is closed until the light rail is completed in 2022 or later. The historic house, built in 1929, is wrapped up with scaffolding and will not have any programming or operations for the next 4 or more years.

The house was most recently used as the main office for the Eastside Heritage Center. They had historical items there for the public to see, and also used the location for educational programs. In 1992, the Winters House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the only building in Bellevue on this list.

Once completed, the light rail will go down into a tunnel that is underneath the house. The front yard of the house will be on top of a lid that will be built to go over the tracks. Sound Transit, Eastside Heritage Center and the state historic preservation officer reviewed plans as they were coming to fruition.

The Winters House is on the west side of the Mercer Slough Nature Park.
