Bellevue Resident Injured in Machete Attack at Apartment Complex

Evidence for Machete Attack, Bellevue Police Department

According to the Bellevue Police Department, officers recently provided life-saving treatment to a resident following an overnight assault involving a machete in downtown Bellevue on July 19, 2024.

Officers responded to an incident on the 200 block of 111th Avenue NE. They found a 55-year-old male victim at the entrance of an apartment complex, holding a bloody towel to his upper left arm and with a large pool of blood in the main lobby.

Officers applied a tourniquet above the wound and packed it with gauze to control the bleeding until Bellevue Fire Department personnel arrived to treat the injuries and transport him to Overlake Hospital.

According to the victim and a 33-year-old eyewitness, the victim and the suspect, a 66-year-old male, were acquainted and had a brief interaction before the incident. The suspect allegedly knocked on the victim’s door, accused him of stealing his wallet, and then attacked him with a machete, causing a deep laceration to the victim’s upper left arm.

The victim reported feeling his life was in immediate danger and used bear spray on the suspect to prevent further attacks. The suspect then reportedly left the victim’s apartment and treated his own injuries in the apartment complex’s main bathroom lobby.

Both the victim and eyewitness stated that the suspect fled the scene in a silver Nissan sedan. Later, the Kirkland Police Department informed Bellevue Police about a machete matching the description of the assault weapon. The machete was then collected by Bellevue officers and booked as evidence.
